Last week the Senate introduced a budget resolution that takes the first step toward repealing the Affordable Care Act. The Senate is expected to have a series of votes this week, followed by a final vote late in the week. The measure is expected to pass the House shortly thereafter. This is just the beginning of the repeal process. We need all advocates to weigh in TODAY, and this week, so Congress hears our opposition loud and clear!
Repealing the ACA without ensuring a viable replacement plan would result in the loss of services that save lives and improve health. Nearly 30 million Americans would lose their health insurance, leading to an increase in health disparities. The first and only mandatory funding stream for public health and prevention created under the ACA, the Prevention and Public Health Fund, would also be at risk and result in a major loss of support for public health programs.
